This is one of our favourite vintage Azilal rugs. It has a large, colourful diamond at its centre, which is made up of multi-coloured layers built onto each other like the layers of an onion.
The special feature of this rug is that the central motif is knotted from cotton and synthetic yarns; the background is made of pink wool; and recycled textile scraps are used for the weft. As the different materials wear at different paces, the front side has taken on a 3D character. As you can see up close, the felting of the pink wool makes the colours of the underside pop out here and there.
We think it’s a unique piece that will make a great impact in its new home.
** All our rugs are carefully hand-knotted. Each piece is completely unique, bearing the individual self-expression of the weaver woman as well as the weaving traditions of the tribes of the Atlas Mountains. We handpick each and every piece of our collection. Please note that Berber rugs are handcrafted products so you may spot minor imperfections. We think this only adds to their character and charm.
