This richly decorated Hanbel was woven in the Siroua region by our new weaving partner. The wool is sourced locally and the colours are created using natural ingredients such as walnut skin, henna, pomegranate, saffron and indigo.
While much of the weaving is flat-weave kilim weaving, some of the patterns are pile knotted, some are woven and some are embroidered, creating a three-dimensional surface.
The symbols decorating the rug all have special meaning: they provide protection from evil, beauty and strength to their owner.
The carpet is made of dyed wool, on cotton warping and is fringed at both ends.
** All our rugs are carefully hand-knotted. Each piece is completely unique, bearing the individual self-expression of the weaver woman as well as the weaving traditions of the tribes of the Atlas Mountains. We handpick each and every piece of our collection. Please note that Berber rugs are handcrafted products so you may spot minor imperfections. We think this only adds to their character and charm.
